Artist's Description

September, 1980. Near the small, southeastern South Dakota town of Elk Point, the passing Missouri River is flanked by extended, rolling expanses of river dunes. These dual foot tracks left by strangers in the sand aroused many wondering questions . . . about who they were, when they passed, why, toward what destination, and left lingering in the beautiful Indian Summer approaching evening light a metaphoric impression relating these to larger questions of destiny. And the general scene revived my long-held sense that the Midwest holds many places of great beauty; a beauty often overlooked for its' deceptive and easily missed subtlety.
