A hot, still summer/1984 day hike through this rather desiccated and unkempt East Los Angeles arboretum led to a moment where the striking visual gestalt of this impression suddenly made me stop dead in my tracks, savoring the convergence of light, shadow, symmetries and perspective so perfectly framed that it seemed to be waiting to be appreciated. Excited as I was to capture it, the pleasure of simply taking it in and anticipating . . . well, there are times when you know even before looking through the camera's viewfinder that you've stumbled on a visual diamond. This was one of those times. This is a split tone color enhanced version of the original black and white image.
