While out on a winter 1980 neighborhood photographic foot expedition, passing an otherwise unremarkable West Los Angeles home, my eye was draw to how the sweeping grace of these plants - conveying an almost dancelike movement even in their motionlessness - was actually accentuated by the muted light cast by the heavily overcast sky. The combination of the incredible beauty of this sense of graceful motionless movement, the fine detail of the cellulose plant structures illuminated by this gentle light, and the utter stillness of the fragrant air, which allowed the razor sharp capture of a subject that would otherwise be swaying in the slightest hint of breeze, made this series irresistible.
Independent researcher, entrepreneur, poet, photographer and more. Serious as I have been about photography for many years, I long resisted considering the possibility of pursuing it as a "profession". Why?
